ThoroPACE offers Premium Race Analytics.
Launched in 2022, ThoroPACE has developed more than 100 statistical models to identify handicapping approaches producing above- and below-average returns on investment.
These models are based on more than 2.1 million running lines from North American thoroughbred races run between 2019 and 2025. All models are surface and distance specific.
Our proprietary products include:
– Pace Forecast
– Spotlight Plays
– ThoroPACE Insider
– Change of Pace
The Pace Forecast provides the predicted pace of each race based on the past performances of entrants. The Forecast is presented on a 70-point scale from -35 (best for speed) to +35 (best for stretch runners). For each race, we also forecast the runners(s) most likely to get the early lead.
Spotlight Plays identify runners that will likely be overlays or underlays. Positive spotlight plays include runners getting a better pace setup, a more favorable post position, or have a TPfig value* considerably better than the morning like would suggest. Negative spotlight plays include runners getting a tougher pace or post position.
*Tpfig values are similar to other speed figures but are adjusted for early pace and the length of layoff of past races.
The ThoroPACE Insider provides runner-by-runner information for each race: runner’s TPfig value (higher is better), racing style during past two races, the actual pace of the past two races (leader, stalker, etc.) and the number of early speed points the runner has earned. A runner with a large advantage in speed points in a race forecasted to have a cold pace will usually be noted as a “controlling speed” upgrade. A stretch runner exiting two slow paced races entered in a forecasted hot pace event will usually be boted to be a “strtech runner to have a speed favoring pace
The Change of Pace report is emailed to subscribers the evening before each race date. It lists runners that are likely overlays because they are:
- a frontrunner compromised by a hot pace and expected to get a softer pace today
- a stretch runner who closed ground despite a cool pace in prior race(s) and expected to get a neutral or hot pace today;
- a runner with some early speed moving to an inside post after losing ground from a wide draw in a two turn event in his/her latest race
- a quick turnaround upgrade (these upgrades are limited to runners whose trainers have above-average win rates with short layoffs).
