If fields stay intact, opening Saturday at Keeneland features three events with Pace Forecasts favoring stretch runners:

Keeneland Race 4:

Pace Forecast +33.8
Most Likely Leader: #3

#6 Gold Look is the entrant to win from off the pace, but he did so with a pretty good setup.

#2 Prove Right may indeed prove to be the right one.  Neither the Sanford nor his most recent run gave much chance to off-the-pace runners.

Keeneland Race 9:

Pace Forecast +35.0
Most Likely Leader: #1

The runners most likely to rally are the Pletcher runners, #7 Forte, and #10 Lost Arc.

Keeneland Race 10:

Pace Forecast +35.0
Most Likely Leader: #1

#4 Gray’s Fable has a recent history of closing into soft paces, and the price will be right.  Other off-the-pace candidates are #9 Casa Creed and #12 Set Piece.

#2 Sounion exits a slow-paced affair in which he closed just a bit late.  Takes a major drop.

#8 Riverboat Gambler also exits a slow pace affair and also drops in class.

Keeneland Race 5:

Pace Forecast +29.6
Most Likely Leader: #6

#2 Miss Mattie B is 0 for 4 on dirt, but three of those races were Graded Stakes.  Closed considerable ground at Kentucky Downs in last.

Keeneland Race 8:

Pace Forecast +35.0
Most Likely Leader: #8

#3 Delight may work out a stalking trip.  She did so in the maiden breaker and pounced despite the dawdling pace.

Keeneland Race 9:

Pace Forecast +32.7
Most Likely Leader: #1

#2 Chop Chop has earned back her purchase price, and then some, in just two starts.  In both races, she stalked a modest pace and finished strong.  Does he handle dirt?

#12 Take Charge Briana made an impressive last-to-first move to break her maiden at Toga.  She was hindered by a very slow pace in her prior try.

ThoroPACE has developed more than 100 statistical models to identify handicapping approaches producing above- and below-average returns on investment.

These models are based on more than 1.2 million running lines from North American thoroughbred races run between 2018 and 2021. All models are surface and distance specific.

The ThoroPACE Forecast provides an objective look at the predicted pace of a race based on the past performances of entrants. The Forecast is presented on a 70-point scale from -35 (best for speed) to +35 (best for stretch runners). For each race, we also forecast the runners(s) most likely to get the early lead. ThoroPACE Premium provides multiple benefits. We identify horses that have both favorable and unfavorable pace dynamics relative to their past performances and style of racing.
